Frequently Asked
Questions
I work alone
in my office, would you teach me the Jiggy
break? Yes, we can come along and install the Jiggy
break in offices of any size. When you work alone it’s
extremely important that you learn the habit of regular
movement as there are often few other reason to leave your work
station.
Do you get
sweaty from doing this? - I don’t like the sound of sharing the
office with a load of sweaty
bodies! No, the routine is done slowly and gently so
it’s not intended to cause the body to heat up unduly like
fitness or cardiovascular exercises do.
If
these aren’t fitness exercises, what kind are they and where do
they come
from?
The routine is made up of exercises from a variety of sources
and health enhancing practices. These include Tai Chi, Qigong,
Shiatsu meridian stretches and Kinesiology.
How can this
improve or protect my
health? Bad sitting posture and chronic tension stops
us from being able to breathe easily and fully, resulting in
our body’s major organs not being able to function properly.
This can cause poor concentration, fatigue and chronic
stress. By moving and releasing your body, it encourages
us to breathe more fully and helps us let go of tension that we
are holding on to.
Getting a regular ‘Jiggy break’ habit can
help prevent back problems; stiff or frozen joints: digestive
problems; repetitive strain injury; muscular problems; poor
posture; poor circulation; poor concentration; chronic fatigue;
depression; sleep problems; vision problems; headaches;
occupational stress — and many more preventable
disorders.
How can this help
my focus and
concentration?
Some of the elements of the
Jiggybreak have been designed to refresh the brain,
clear the mind, help with decision making and improve
creativity.
Our minds work more effectively
when they are used in short bursts. When we focus on a
task for a prolonged periods our minds tend to be less
sharp. The Jiggybreak constructively breaks our attention
and allows us to come back to a task refreshed.
How long
does it take to
learn? A small group of people could learn about and
learn how to do the Jiggy break in a short, enjoyable 90 minute
workshop.
A
short introduction to the Jiggy break, giving your employees an
experience of the simple exercises (to assess if they would
like to participate in the ‘Jiggy break project’ and have the
’Jiggy break culture’ installed) can be done in as little as 20
minutes—ideal to include in team meetings.
Larger projects and special needs
assessments/design will obviously take
longer.
How
much does it
cost?
That depends on your needs. If you call and ask to speak to Joy
Taylor she will find out what you are looking for and give you
an idea of costs.
What if we
have special needs in our place of
work? If our standard ‘Jiggy break’ doesn’t suit
your workplace or department, we can design something that
does, taking in to consideration your unique circumstances and
the physical challenges encountered in your line of
work.
The routine can be adapted to suit people
with disabilities.
Who
will come out and teach
us? Joy Taylor, the designer will come out and
teach the routine herself to ensure it is taught properly and
safely and that any problems you may encounter are solved
appropriately. Joy is an experienced holistic health care
practitioner, body work and tai chi/qigong teacher and
certified health coach. She is also a member of the Institute
of Leadership and Management. She uses these skills in her work
as a personal stress management consultant for Rude Health
